COP29 takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan between 11 - 22 November 2024.
The Global Call to Action Campaign Leadership Team has been busy advocating for the campaign and will convene at COP29. A key strategic objective for COP29, for the campaign as well as the Group of Friends for Culture-Based Climate Action, is to secure a sentence in the COP29 cover decision that will begin the process to secure the first Work Program on Culture-Based Climate Action at the UNFCCC.
This sentence requests that the UNFCCC hold one or more to the UNFCCC to hold one or more workshops in 2025 to consider issues related to culture and heritage while also working to enable culture-based climate action to achieve more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by COP30. It is critical to secure the culture workshops as they could result in a recommendation that COP30 adopt a Joint Work on Culture and Climate Action Decision. If you have the opportunity, please ask your national government to support the Culture Workshop Request at COP29.
At COP29 The Group of Friends for Culture-Based Climate Action is expected to adopt Terms of Reference at COP29 which enshrines as one of the Group's goals, "launching the first Work Program on Culture-based Climate Action at the UNFCCC."
