Culture and Biodiversity: Applying traditional knowledge and practices to support the 30x30 biodiversity target

Event Description

Conservation, Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities land tenure and stewardship. Achieving 30x30 by empowering Indigenous communities without undermining their resilience.

As the preparations for UNFCCC- COP27 intensify, Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities are demanding governments and financial institutions to take urgent climate action. They are collectively upholding and working to advance just and resilient community-led solutions.

The Past and ongoing injustices experienced by Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities continue to accumulate globally due to the fact that they have not been accorded their rights, roles, responsibilities and expectations in the pursuit of conservation goals.

Indigenous Peoples and Local communities particularly Women are simultaneously the most adversely impacted by climate change and socio-ecological degradation, and yet are indispensable actors and leaders with traditional knowledge and effective solutions. Within this struggle, Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities must stand at the forefront of policy-making and action to create long-term systemic change.
