Hear the messages African heritage delegates carried to COP27 and their plans for future culture-based climate action on the continent.
Launched in 2022, the #AfricanHeritageVoicesCOP27 campaign had a simple goal: when COP27, the “African COP,” convened last year in Sharm el-Sheikh, make sure that African cultural voices were there.
Ultimately, through this effort, five Africa cultural leaders were able to make the journey to COP27, building collaborations and connections, and sharing key learnings from Africa on tackling climatic, environmental, and social changes. Their work built on the earlier CVI-Africa project and was integrated into the Climate Heritage Network's Culture at COP27 campaign.
Speakers include:
Adam Markham, Union of Concerned Scientists
Mercy Mbogelah, Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority
Dr Will Megarry, Queen's University Belfast
Simon Musazi, The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda
Daniel Ishaya Mwada, National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Nigeria
Dr Ishanlosen Odiaua, ICOMOS-Nigeria (via video)
Dr Salma Sabour, CHN Africa Region
Ibrahim Tchan, Tata Somba Ecomuseum
