Excitement is building for the COP27 United Nations climate change conference taking place in Egypt in November and about the role of arts and culture in accelerating climate action. Since last year’s COP26 took place in Scotland and saw an incredibly rich range of arts and cultural projects, we’re offering a special online networking event to connect people in Egypt and Scotland working on climate and culture in the run-up to COP27.

Creative Carbon Scotland is running this free online event with the Climate Heritage Network, the global organisation committed to mobilising arts, culture and heritage to support communities in achieving the Paris Agreement. It is open to people working in arts and culture as well as people working on climate change research, policy, advocacy or education. We especially encourage people based in Egypt formulating plans around COP27 and people based in Scotland who worked on projects around COP26 or are planning for COP27 to attend. The event is also open to others based elsewhere in Africa or Europe, given that COP26 was a ‘Europe’ COP and COP27 is an ‘Africa’ COP.

The event will kick off with an introduction from Creative Carbon Scotland about our work on arts and culture at the Scotland COP and discussing differences and similarities between COP26 and COP27. We will then hear from artists and cultural organisations hard at work on COP27, followed by one-on-one discussions among participants. In this part of the event, attendees from Egypt and Scotland will be automatically paired up for 5-minute conversations. We will conclude with time to share feedback and discuss the next steps for strengthening the connections made.

This event will take place in English, with live captioning available. The event will take place through Zoom, which you can join via a phone, tablet or computer. The one-on-one discussions will make use of the Twine app for Zoom; you do not need to download anything extra to use this and we will explain everything at the event. However, if you want to know more in advance, you can find information about Twine here: https://try.twine.nyc/twine-for-zoom.

If you have any questions about the event, don’t hesitate to get in touch with lewis.coenen-rowe@creativecarbonscotland.com.
